Colorado SET-NET & Congenital CMV Update
Briana Sprague, SET-NET Coordinator – Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment
Briana will provide an update on Colorado’s participation in SET-NET, a CDC surveillance program focused on emerging threats to pregnant people and infants.
Topics will include:
• Background on congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV)• Colorado’s participation in the CDC SET-NET program• Newly approved cCMV reporting requirements for infants under 1 year of age• Upcoming newborn dried blood spot (DBS) testing for CMV in infants who meet certain criteria (including failed newborn hearing screening, low birth weight for gestational age, or missing hearing screen results)

CPCQC Forum – Better Together
The Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative (CPCQC) is hosting its annual forum focused on collaboration and quality improvement in maternal and newborn care across Colorado. The event brings together clinicians, public health professionals, and community partners to share best practices and advance statewide initiatives.
CPCQC Looking for Proposals
CPCQC Opportunity – Rural OB Emergency Readiness Training
The Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative (CPCQC) is seeking a contractor to help develop and finalize a mobile, onsite training curriculum for rural Emergency Departments focused on obstetric and perinatal emergency readiness drills. The project will include benchmarking national programs, developing training scenarios and materials, aligning with CMS Conditions of Participation, and recommending a voluntary readiness recognition model.
Proposals are due March 18, 2026.

Harvey C. Cohen Maternal Morbidity & Mortality Summit – Call for Cases
The planning committee for the 2026 Harvey C. Cohen MD Maternal Morbidity & Mortality Summit is seeking case submissions. Cases can be submitted by clinicians or residents and should be fully de-identified prior to submission.
• Submission deadline: May 1, 2026• Submit completed forms to: colo.acog.2023@gmail.com• Cases selected for presentation will be announced by May 29, 2026

Project C.U.R.E. | Midwife Kits Initiative
Our midwifery community is proud to participate in Project C.U.R.E.’s Midwife Kits, which provide clean birth supplies to birth attendants and midwives globally.
In February, 10 volunteers assembled more than 130 kits destined for Ukraine, Uganda, and Guatemala.
With recent cuts to U.S. federal funding for global aid, grassroots efforts like this are becoming increasingly important.

Educational Resource from Elephant Circle
Elephant Circle recently hosted a webinar titled:
“Certified Professional Midwives in Colorado: Education, Practice, and Regulation.”
The webinar was designed as an educational resource for anyone interested in learning more about the training, scope, and regulatory structure of CPMs/DEMs practicing in Colorado.

2026 Affiliate Activities
Colorado Affiliate Updates
A few highlights of what the Colorado Affiliate Board has been working on recently:
Continued legislative advocacy for CNMs and CMs in Colorado, working with partners and legislators to improve access to midwifery care across the state.
Ongoing participation in state maternal health initiatives and committees, including collaboration with CPCQC and other statewide maternal health partners.
Engagement with regulatory and professional partners on issues affecting midwifery practice in Colorado, including scope of practice and workforce sustainability.
These efforts help ensure midwives are represented in policy, regulatory, and quality improvement discussions across Colorado.
Submitted comments to the Colorado Direct-Entry Midwife (DEM) Board supporting updates to the DEM formulary to allow administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) for postpartum hemorrhage and medications used in neonatal resuscitation, with the goal of improving maternal and newborn safety for all settings.
