LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Certified Midwife (CM) Licensure Requirements in the state of Colorado
as dictated and detailed by the Nurse Practice Act
Pre-Requirements:

CNM applicant must hold a current Colorado Registered Nurse License and renew this license every 2 years along with the CNM license.

CM applicant must hold a Colorado Certified Midwife License and renew this license every 2 years.
Education: Master’s Degree or Higher from a Nurse-Midwife Program Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education.
Certification/Examination: Certification Examination in Nurse-Midwifery/Midwifery from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
Licensing Renewal: Every 2 years for CNMs and CMs.
Certification Renewal: Every 5 years from the AMCB. ​
Licensed CNMs and CMs in the State of Colorado may apply for Prescriptive Authority as detailed below.
Prescriptive Authority Requirements in the State of Colorado
CNMs and CMs who wish to obtain prescriptive authority are required to:

Have national certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)

Hold a graduate or post-graduate degree in specialty area

Complete a 750-hour mentorship
